LIQUID HAIR DRAMA

GLOSSY HAIR THAT REFLECTS LIGHT AND MOVES FREELY, HERE’S HOW YOU CAN GET INSTA-FAVOURITE LIQUID HAIR AT HOME

The need to come up with something new and interesting for the web often means that content creators must think of catchy terms for existing makeup and hair techniques in a bid to go viral. Remember the dolphin, glass, and dumpling skin trends?

One such ‘new’ hair technique that is used in satisfying, light-reflecting viral hair videos and international red-carpet sightings is liquid hair. You can call it a sister trend of glass hair, which is defined by super-glossy, poker-straight hair that shines like glass. The technique to achieve both looks is almost the same, but for a few tweaks. What’s different, you ask? Liquid hair has a softer shine, and it moves more freely unlike glass hair. It’s also softer to touch. It looks more natural than glass hair but reflects more light than your daily hair.

You need to take this trend with a pinch of salt, as most celebrities are achieving this look thanks to keratin treatments, extensions, and great lighting. So, if the hair looks so shiny, it doesn’t look real on Insta, it probably isn’t! The shine comes from flattening the cuticle. To get liquid hair that lasts you longer, going for an in-salon keratin treatment is your easiest bet. Unlike hair bonding treatments, where the hair can look straight yet stiff, keratin protein treatments fill the protein gaps in your hair which makes your locks look smoother, thicker and shinier.

This trend also shows more on coloured hair with highlights and lowlights as the light plays with different shades on the hair, making it look fluid. A hack that results in liquid hair is lighting. For glossy hair on Instagram, you probably need more white light, as that will reflect much better on the hair. To shoot your liquid hair video, you can have someone use a phone flashlight on your hair, while you record the video with a different phone (not using its flash).

To achieve liquid hair at home, nourish your hair first. Dry, tangled hair will not reflect light and will undergo more damage when you use heat tools for this technique. Shampoo and condition as you need to get rid of all grease so that the hair is bouncy and isn’t weighed down. Once your hair and scalp are clean, you apply a light serum or a spray, such as Livon Serum or Livon Shake and Spray Serum , which will add some shine and moisturize your hair while sealing to avoid frizz. You can also blow dry your hair straight and use a brush and blow dryer in a downward direction. Remember to use the Livon Heat Protect Serum before you use a heat tool. You can now apply a dry shampoo to your scalp and flat iron your hair to knock out any frizz or flyaways. Remember to not go extra hard with the iron as you need to keep movement in your hair so that it looks liquid-like. Finish with a shine spray to make your hair catch more light for the ’gram.

2022 MAKEUP TRENDS

BRIGHT LINERS, HEALTHY SKIN, CLEAN BEAUTY— THERE’S A LOT TO LOVE ABOUT MAKEUP IN 2022

A makeup rebellion started in 2021 with bright eye looks that one could wear with masks; and colourful, frizz-free hair that would help you establish an identity even when your face is covered. These trends are going to get bigger and bolder next year as people will continue to use makeup as their voice. Here’s what you can be excited about in 2022 if you are a makeup lover.

NEON EYELINERS

Makeup is going to be all about getting things done in two minutes. And helping you do it with ease is neon or bright eyeliner. A winged eye in bright pink is sometimes all you need to perk your day up.

COLOURFUL EYES

If you thought we are done with playing colours in 2021, you couldn’t be more wrong. You’ll see lots more green eyeshadows, camel tones, blues in all hues, and pastel shadows. There’s going to be a play on texture, with matte shadows, glitter eyes, even stick-on accessories. You can even do two different powder pastels on both your lids; think mint green on the left and powder blue on the right.

FUN WITH BROWS

It’s not just your eyelid that’s a canvas, but your brows too. With masks continuing to be a necessity, it’s time to bleach your brows, colour them, and have fun with them! You could even ditch the painted-on look and go for a fluffy natural brow, which is filled to look fuller.

BOLD LIPS

While we are a bit iffy about the fashion week glossy lips trend, as we need to wear masks, bold lips courtesy liquid lipsticks are still a doable way of adopting this trend. Figure your skin undertone and pick the brightest reds or pinks, or even browns to make a statement.

ARTSY LINERS

Since we have been experimenting with colourful liners, it’s time to have a bit more fun and draw different patterns with neon colours. It can be a geometric winged eye, a contrasting liner over blurred shadow, or even a glitter eyeliner.

SOFT GLAM

Silky skin that boosts a little bit of makeup and is more about good, hydrated, dewy skin will be big in 2022. All you need is a blurred soft eyeshadow, a natural juicy lip tint, and healthy cheeks. This will require a combination of skincare and makeup products where, a foundation, for example, will also have healthy ingredients such as niacinamide. Clean beauty and makeup will push us to use lesser products and demand more quality from them. And not just the formulations, even the packaging should be cleaner and recyclable so that your beauty routine does not bear a burden on the planet.

A VERY PERI LOVE STORY

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN INCLUDE PANTONE'S COLOUR FOR 2022 IN YOUR #OOTD

Every year, Pantone (the company whose colour matching system is used to design and print almost everything) announces a colour that they predict will inspire trends for the year. By 2022, the company introduced a new colour in their range called Very Peri. Thanks to the unicorn colour trend (a whimsical mix of powdery pastel pinks and blues), violets, lavender, and lilac tones have already become a huge part of the fashion industry with both, high-street and couture houses widely using the shade range even for their 2022 collections. Pantone describes Very Peri as a dynamic periwinkle hue with a violet-red undertone. The company agrees that it’s been a tough two years for everyone, and this shade has been created to inspire confidence, creativity and embrace the transition.

This colour symbolizes transition and is a beautiful bridge between Indian and western aesthetics. You will see this shade used widely in Indian and western wear, and high-street labels are already flooded with this shade in ribbed T-shirts, fitted crop tops, and athleisure as well. This colour teams beautifully with gold and can be used in enameled jewellery. You will see this colour in Indian architecture too. It balances Indian jewel tones very well, and you can team it with emerald green or ruby red. For western wear; pair it with crisp whites, beige and camel tones. Wear it with military green pants, denim, or even with linen pants or shorts with a blazer over it. It looks beautiful in satin, so a formal shirt with an interesting bow or neck or sleeve detail in this colour works.

Thanks to wearing masks, bright eye shadow shades have dominated the make-up trends of 2021, and purples and neon shades are some of the hottest colours to go for in 2022. Very Peri perfectly fits in our bid to brighten our appearance with the mask on. There is a lot to love about the colour that exudes love and charm and can work brilliantly as a make-up shade despite being daring. The ’90s and Y2K era will trend over the next 12 months, and Very Peri will be the perfect lip and nail shade to round off any look from this period. For those who are a little less daring, the shade is brilliant as a single one-and-done eye shadow. You can also use it in the form of a kajal pencil on the waterline to make your eyes pop. You can also create a winged eye with this shade to make a statement yet be subtle.

Experiment with different eye shadow textures and finishes, be it glitter, retro matte eye shadow, or even super glossy lids in this shade. You can also dab a little on the inner corner of your eyes to make them look whimsical yet bright. Since it falls in the blue category, you can also do a mix of similar tones to create a buffed-out blue eye look, with some shimmer highlights. And for some hair magic, add subtle highlights and lowlights, or create a money piece or curtain bangs in this colour.
