THE WORLD IS HER RAMP

FORMER MISS ARUNACHAL, A NURSE AND NOW A SUPERMODEL, ARUNACHAL PRADESH’S ROSHNI DADA HAS COME A LONG WAY

As a child living a happy life in the town of Kalaktang, Roshni Dada reminisces that she would always be fascinated looking at the models on FashionTV. She channeled her interest in fashion and beauty into dressing her dolls, and when social media came in, Dada would ardently follow and be inspired by supermodels and their style online. Studying nursing though was never a part of the plan. It was due to her family’s insistence that she started studying and working as a nurse in Itanagar. But fate would have modelling come knocking at her door, and Dada went on to win Miss Arunachal and eventually ended up with the crown of MTV Supermodel of the Year. Roshni reveals her beauty and fashion likings and the reason behind her participation in the pageant.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO PARTICIPATE IN MISS ARUNACHAL?

It is one of the most prestigious titles of the state, and my friends encouraged me to sign up. I have always been an introvert and thought this would be a great way to make me come out of my cocoon. I never liked being in the spotlight and voicing my opinion. But Miss Arunachal changed everything, it all started from there.

HOW DID THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN SOTY COME?

I watched India’s Next Top Model when I was in school, and my sister is a fan of reality shows, though I was more into studies I enjoyed watching the show. I never thought that I would be capable of participating in such a big show. But with the previous winner coming from North East [Manila Pradhan] encouraged me to try out. I never expected to win, and it turned out to be a good decision!

WHO INSPIRED YOUR INTEREST IN FASHION, AND WHO ARE YOUR IDOLS?

As a kid, I loved how actors would dress in movies. I love Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid. I admire and look up to Naomi Campbell and Adriana Lima. I also love actor Zendaya’s style.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DAILY DRESSING STYLE?

For an evening out, I prefer heels but for daily casual dressing, I like to be comfortable. You will mostly see me in loose pants and top, long and maxi dresses. My daily dressing style is simple, comfortable, and yet elegant.

YOUR MAKEUP ESSENTIALS?

I don’t wear too much makeup, and when I do, I just use a little bit of concealer and eyeshadow in nude and brown tones with a bit of shimmer. I don’t like to use too many colours. I use a gloss as a blush and love to use baby powder too. A lip tint is a must for me as it doesn’t matter if I don’t have anything on my skin; I need to have a lip tint on.

YOUR MAKEUP ESSENTIALS?

I use K-beauty products and routines. I start with a toner, essence, serum and a cream moisturizer at night, and sunscreen in the day.

WHAT PLACES WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THAT PEOPLE VISIT IN ARUNACHAL PRADESH?

There are so many fashion boutiques everywhere, and you will find unique pieces that are not like the ones at high street brands. In Itanagar, you can go to Choe-Wang’s and The Black Sparrow to eat. To travel, you can go to Tawang to see the monastery, Mechuka for cold and snow, Ziro for the paddy fields and nature. Pasighat and Namsai are also beautiful destinations, there are so many places in Arunachal to see.

EASY HAIRDOS FOR NYE

GET READY FOR THE FINAL NIGHT-OUT OF 2021 WITH THESE EASY, TRANSFORMING HAIRDOS

When the clock is ticking and, you need to get dressed in a jiffy to head out to meet your besties to usher in the New Year, the lesser time you spend getting dressed and doing your hair the faster you can reach the party spot. Getting your hair right can often be problematic because either frizz, dull hair, or greasy hair comes in your way. Here are three easy-to-do, party-ready hairstyles you could try out this season.

THE EASY VOLUMINOUS PONY

Sometimes, the simplest hairdos can make you look the most glam. A dainty, doll-like perfect pony with a bow can go with a pantsuit, a dress, or a jumpsuit. All you need is a (preferably black) velvet ribbon, elastic hair ties, pins, and two small claw clips. You don’t need rollers or tonging to create this pony. Start with creating two sections of the hair, one on the crown and the rest left open at the back. Tie the top section so that it stays out of the way, and make a pony out of the second section as high as you like. Create two parts of this pony and clip in a tiny claw clip inside and cover it with your strands, this step will instantly add volume. Now spray Livon Shake and Spray Serum on the crown to make it look glossy and then backcomb to create volume on top. Neatly pull back and tie this to your ponytail. Create two sections and add a second claw clip for more volume. Wrap a velvet ribbon bow on top and if you want more volume, spray your ponytail with some dry shampoo.

THE SLICK FAUX BOB

slick-doodle

If you have a long, layered haircut and wish to create a slick faux bob, start with applying Livon Super Styler Serum to your hair. Now, flatiron your hair. The serum will help you get sleek hair faster and make them stay longer too. Pull up the shorter layers of your hair on top and clip them aside. Make a small bun above the nape of your neck and pin it in place. Now open the top section and brush all your hair in place, covering the bun. You can also add barrette pins to one side and make it look more disco.

Whatever your hair length is or whatever your hairdo is, make it party-ready by just adding rhinestones across the length, so they shine every time you flip your hair while dancing. You can stick them on open hair, across the length of your pony or the crown, or just add a couple of rhinestones in your hair parting.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A MOISTURIZER?

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS YOU NEED IN YOUR MOISTURIZER AS THE TEMPERATURE DIPS

Cleansing, toning and moisturizing are the basics of skincare. Even if you don’t follow multi-step beauty routines, using just a good moisturizer and SPF will do a lot for your skin. Moisturizers don’t just help seal the moisture in your skin but also contain several ingredients that help fill cracks in the skin barrier, improve elasticity and texture. Before you choose your product for this winter, here’s a list of great ingredients to look for in a moisturizer.

CERAMIDES

Ceramides are the lipids that form the outer layer of your skin and keep it hydrated, healthy, and moisturized. As we age, the ceramide levels start depleting, and skin starts looking dull and dry as the skin barrier gets compromised. You can add it to your regime and seal in the moisture on your face with a ceramide-based moisturizer after cleansing your face. Ceramides are the glue that holds our skin cells together, and once you replenish them, it will result in skin that is plumper and firmer. Lack of ceramides results in a weakened skin barrier and leads to dryness, redness and itchiness. You also need to maintain a diet that is rich in healthy fats to naturally increase your ceramide levels.

NIACINAMIDE

Niacinamide is another name for Vitamin B3, this versatile ingredient not only helps with skin brightening but also has anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties. It tackles pigmentation, dark spots, discolouration, and dullness as well. It boosts ceramide levels in the skin and stimulates circulation. .

HUMECTANTS LIKE HYALURONIC ACID

A naturally found humectant in the skin, it can retain up to 1000 times its weight in water and acts like a sponge absorbing all the water and then trapping it into the skin. This results in smooth, hydrated skin. It works well when your skin is damp.

PEPTIDES

These long and short chains of amino acids signal your cells to make more collagen, hence improving their cell structure. Now commonly seen in moisturizers and anti-aging creams, you can use peptides any time of the day for firmer skin.

ANTIOXIDANTS LIKE VITAMIN C AND E, GREEN TEA

This antioxidant is easy on the skin and takes care of free radical and environmental damage. It also interferes with the production of excess pigment in the skin, thus helping to fade spots and discoloration. It also stimulates collagen production and prevents the onset of wrinkles.

BOTANICALS

These give nutrition to the skin. Plant-derived ingredients help with collagen synthesis, rejuvenate the skin from its deepest layer and weaken the harmful enzymes that degrade skin elasticity.

EMOLLIENTS

They help fill the cracks in your skin and soften it. Common emollients include shea butter and cocoa butter.

SPF

While you can use SPF separately, several moisturizers also come armed with SPF today that can save you time when feeling lazy or if you plan to stay indoors.

THE LBD EDIT

ALL THE TRENDS YOU NEED TO KNOW TO PICK THE PERFECT LBD FOR THIS PARTY SEASON

A white shirt with jeans for casuals and a little black dress for an evening outing would probably be a staple in every fashionista’s wardrobe. But you can always have a little fun with wardrobe stables when ’tis the party season! Any Christmas or New Year’s Eve party you go to, chances are you’ll find others in a black dress too. But choose the right trends of the season, and you are sure to be the belle of the ball. Here’s a list to choose your favourite.

SEQUINS

Pants, jackets, tops, bags and dresses, everything sequins is in trend at the moment and a perfect thing to try for the groovy season. You can pick a sequined black dress in a silhouette of your choice— a flared tunic style or a fitted dress with full sleeves and no back. You can also experiment and go for big-sized sequins that add movement to a dress. Pair this with a matte neutral lipstick and a smoky eye, and you are ready for the night in your favourite pair of heels.

SHOULDER DRAMA

Be it shoulder pads or voluminous sleeves, designers are having a lot of fun with sleeves. You can choose the simplest of cuts for a dress but add statement sleeves, and you are bound to look cool. Puff sleeve dresses in all colours are having a moment right now and look great in black for a night out. For some extra glam, you can choose a dress with dramatic sleeves in sequins too.

SATIN SLIP DRESSES

Satin dresses in various colours are still a hot favourite across the world and are the easiest way to look chic and understated. Now black slip dresses can be pretty common, but you can do a little DIY with your old black slip dress to give it a makeover. For this, you can buy gold chains from a craft store and sew them onto the straps to make a red-carpet-worthy dress.

Another trick to try would be to choose a cool border (geometric or ornate) and attach it to the straps. You could also DIY a feather trim to the dress as feather accents were one of the hottest trends this year.

DISCO BALL

Pick any slinky black dress and wear a bejeweled mesh dress on top to glitter like a disco ball. The glitter mesh trend has also taken over boots, so you could pair any black dress and wear your favourite heels with bedazzled mesh socks to pick up on the trend.

LEATHER WEATHER

If a satin dress can make you look fabulous, a leather dress in the simplest cut can also make you look cool. A black leather dress paired with glittery red lips will give you enough oomph to last till January 1. You could also wear a leather corset over any black dress to add this trend to your look and find a way to re-wear it with an old dress.

A BLAZER DRESS

For those who wish to re-wear a piece from their wardrobe, you can wear an oversized black blazer as a dress by belting it at the waist.
